About Ergode

One category, taken seriously

Ergode sells the hardware that sits on and under a desk. Monitor risers and laptop stands, under-desk drawers and cable trays, desk pads and wrist rests, pen storage, shelving, task lighting and headphone stands.

That is the whole range. There is no second category waiting in the wings, no phone cases, no seasonal novelty. A desk is a specific problem with specific dimensions, and solving it properly takes more attention than it gets when it is one aisle in a store that sells everything.

The problem with how this category is usually sold

Desk accessories are mostly sold as an afterthought. The photography is borrowed, the listing is three lines long, and the description leans on the word premium instead of naming anything.

So the failures are always the same three. You order a riser described as wood and unpack printed particleboard. You order a shelf and find it flexes the moment a second monitor goes on it. You order a cable tray and discover it expects four screws driven into the underside of a desk you are renting, or one you paid too much for to start drilling into.

None of that is exotic. It is what happens when nobody checks the product before listing it, and when the one measurement that decides the purchase is the one left out.

What we do differently

Materials are named, not implied. Where a product is wood, the listing says which wood — black walnut, bamboo, beech, ash. Where it is metal, it says whether that is powder-coated steel or anodised aluminium. Premium build quality is not a material, and on its own it tells you nothing.

Sizes are choices you make before checkout, not surprises afterwards. Most of the range ships in more than one size or finish. Those are options on the product page, with the dimensions attached, so the decision about whether something fits happens before you pay rather than when the box arrives.

Most of it mounts without damaging the desk. A large part of the cable management and under-desk storage clamps on or adheres in place instead of screwing through the surface. If you rent, or you would simply rather not put holes in a desk you like, that is the part of the catalogue to start with.

The buying standard

The most useful thing a shop can tell you is what it turns down. Ours:

  • No particleboard sold as solid wood. If the listing says walnut, it is walnut, not a walnut-effect print over chipboard.
  • No riser that flexes under a second monitor. A monitor stand that bows is not a monitor stand.
  • No mount that assumes you own your desk. Where a product needs permanent fixing, it says so plainly rather than burying it in the last line of the specification.
  • No filler. The catalogue is not padded out to look larger than it is. Every product is in one of four categories and earns its place there.

That standard is checkable. Open any product page and see whether it holds.
